US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, one of the main proponents behind the move to ban online gambling in the USA, has announced his decision to resign. Pressure had been mounting for quite some time on Gonzales to vacate his position as America’s top cop. For the online gambling industry in general, and American-based gamblers in particular, the news has definitely come as a breath of fresh air. Hopefully the move will alter the direction the United States took only a year ago when it passed their now awful Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), effectively outlawing gambling over the Internet in the land of the free.
Ever since the online gambling law was passed, Gonzales was said to have promised Arizona Senator Jon Kyl, a leading anti-online gaming legislator, that he would use his power to eradicate online gambling in the US. Gonzales, it appears, has eradicated himself.
